Massachusetts State Police and Windham Police were attempting to stop of the van as it approached Pelham center. The operator of the van, later identified as Michael Steele, age 30, of Wakefield, MA, continued to flee as he turned on Route 111A in Windham and traveled south back into Pelham, New Hampshire. The pursuit continued northbound into Windham, New Hampshire and eastbound on Route 111. Pelham officers were not able to stop the van with the stop sticks on Mammoth Road. The pursuing agencies requested that the Pelham Police Department set up stop sticks in an attempt to stop the fleeing van. The police were pursuing a white van that was reported stolen out of Billerica, MA.
